Connecting With What's Important

Being disconnected from those we love, from our own internal experiences, and from what is important to us can lead to low quality of life and difficulty functioning from day to day.  Life can feel flat or exceedingly stressful when we lose sight of what brings us a sense of meaning and purpose.

Whether you feel stressed, overworked, stuck, run down, hopeless, helpless, or unsure about what the future has to offer, our work together will focus on bringing a sense of connection, meaning, purpose, and transformational change to whatever areas of your life that you would like to work on.

Sometimes life requires a quick “tune-up” and sometimes we need a little more to get unstuck.  Whatever your needs, we can work together to meet your own personal goals.

I work with adults across the age spectrum, and I especially enjoy working with older adults who are looking to maintain a vibrant quality of life in their later years.

Evidence-Based

All treatments that I use are evidence-based psychotherapies, which means that everything that we do will be rooted in therapeutic approaches that have been shown to be effective.  Scientific studies have shown that certain treatments and methods of addressing mental health concerns and life change goals are more effective than others.  My goal is to help you feel better and function better.  To do this, I use only well-established approaches that directly address key problem areas you'd like to work on.

Client-Centered

I also strongly believe in something called client-centered care, which means that we will work collaboratively to determine your unique needs and goals and to create a treatment plan that will directly address your own desired outcome for therapy.  You are the expert of you.  All of my work is rooted in humanistic psychology, which means that I believe that you have within you the ability to change and heal.  My job is to use my knowledge of therapeutic tools to help bring to light your own innate capabilities.

Treatments Offered:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): works on the thoughts that keep us feeling stuck and the behaviors we would like to either do more of or less of in our lives

  • Mindfulness-Based CBT: infuses mindfulness-based techniques within a CBT approach to care

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): works toward increasing acceptance of the aspects of our lives that are unchangeable while simultaneously working on creating a meaningful life through purpose-driven actions

  • Motivational Enhancement: works toward reconciling normally occurring ambivalence toward the changes we’d like to make in our live but struggle with making

  • Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT): helps individuals or couples learn how our human emotional experience shapes our interactions with the world around us and our relationships and then use this knowledge to reduce distress and improve functioning

For PTSD, I offer two treatments:

  • Cognitive Processing Therapy(CPT): a CBT treatment that takes a step-by-step approach to understanding how our thoughts, behaviors, and feelings keep us “stuck” in the trauma

  • Cognitive Behavioral Conjoint Therapy for PTSD(CBCT for PTSD): a CBT treatment that includes your partner (in the sessions) to address both individual trauma symptoms and functioning as well as relationship distress. This is a couples-based treatment.
